Vitamin C, AKA ascorbic acid, is a powerful antioxidant. This vitamin has so many uses. Incorporating this type of product into your skincare routine will help fight free radicals from pollution, help correct your complexion by decreasing hyperpigmentation, and also speed up wound healing.

How does a Vitamin C Serum Work

Free radicals from pollution or the sun (UV rays) can cause our skin to break down collagen, which can lead to premature aging. Incorporating a Vitamin C serum into your skincare routine will help fight against this kind of damage and keep your skin looking young and at it’s best!

Hyperpigmentation are those dark spots you may have, some people also refer to them as sunspots. These dark spots are from the increased melanin production in your skin. It can be caused by sun exposure, skin damage or irritation, and also inflammation. A vitamin C serum will help reduce these dark spots by fighting the free radicles from UV light and also encouraging cellular repair from sun damage.

The sun is very mean to your skin! Every time your skin is in sunlight, without adequate sun protection (like a hat or sunscreen), you are damaging your skin. Using a vitamin C product will increase wound healing from the sun, which will help make your skin look much more bright and alive!

Vitamin C Serum Morning or Night

Finally, we answer the question, “when is the best time to use a Vitamin C Serum morning or night?” I personally say that the morning is the best time, and many skincare experts and dermatologists agree. Vitamin C does not mix well with other ingredients so if you are using it in the morning, then your nighttime routine is free to mix more things together.

This is because using products with retinol are best applied at night, and they CANNOT be mixed with Vitamin C. So in the morning, after your vitamin C serum, make sure you apply SPF to your face. Vitamin C can make your skin a little more sensitive to the sun, but it is better than using other ingredients that absolutely CANNOT be used in the day time. Using a Vitamin C serum in the morning instead of night will help your overall routine become more cohesive.

The Best Vitamin C Serums

Korean Skincare Brands

Dear Klairs is a popular Korean Skincare Brand that has amazing products! Their vitamin C serum is great for those who have super sensitive skin and also first time Vit. C users. There is only a small amount of this vitamin, which means that it will help your skin get used to it. I think this is a really great product for sensitive skin because the low amount of Vitamin C will not be so harsh on the skin. When I first started out, this was my go-to serum. It did not break me out and I saw really great results!

The Skin & Lab Red Serum is another FANTASTIC serum. It is packed with so many antioxidants, which will help reduce damage from free radicals and also brighten up the skin. This serum is super hydrating and has not broken me out. This serum is a lot thicker than what I expected, and not your typical Vitamin C. But, I think it is a really great serum to try, as it helps brighten, tighten, rejuvenate, and also calm irritated skin, with the use of berries and other fruits that are high in ascorbic acid.

The ordinary L-Ascorbic Acid Power is 100% Vitamin C. Vitamin C is usually unstable, but this powder form is great for keeping vitality. I really like this powder form because it is so different from other vitamin C products. Since this is pure Vitamin C, it can be a bit harsh on your skin. I would only suggest this product for those who are already experienced with Vitamin C because you will be able to know what your skin can take.

The Vinchy Vitamin C dropper has been a winter favorite of mine! Check out how this product plays a role in my winter skincare routine. This product has 15% vitamin C, which can be a little harsh for some people. But I think 15% is a good amount to see a change in complexion faster. I really liked this product, but I thought it was too small for the price.

Another fantastic medical-grade vitamin C would be the SkinCeuticals antioxidants! There are currently 3 different antioxidants in the line. Each targets their own skincare concerns.
