Hair Serum Ingredients To Look For

Does your hair look like it could use some help? Hair serums are one of the best and easiest things we can add to our hair care routine to help solve a majority of issues. Dry, frizzy hair seems to be a theme for the summer. I have super frizzy hair, and especially in summer where the air is humid, it can get super poofy. When I go out and I have unnecessary poof, I like to reach for my straightener, but I am working to avoid heat products. I have tried so many different hair serums, and I have learned which ones are able to help with frizzy hair. On the other hand, there are different ingredients you might want to look out for if you are looking for a heat protectant serum. Others can help with shine, or split ends. When looking for a hair serum, make sure to look at the ingredients in order to find a product for your own goals!

Adding a hair serum into our hair care routine can help our hair get to its natural beautiful state. Whether you need help with frizz, or just need another heat protectant, here is a list of ingredients you should look out for, to help with your particular hair needs.

Hair Serum Ingredients for Frizzy hair

Something I notice, especially in the summer, is the amount of frizz I tend to get. There are many hair serum and oils, on the market, to help with that. Although there are many choices, it is important to know which ingredients are actually contributing to smoothing out your hair and reducing frizz.

Friz comes from excessively dry hair. When your hair is dried out, it will seek moisture from the environment around it. This could be from the air, especially when it is humid out, or even the shower environment. The hairs will collect the moisture they can, and it causes the strands to swell! This is why your hair can get very poofy! It’s important to help your hair stay hydrated to help prevent the frizz.

Look for things that will help hydrate your hair! Glycerin and oils are definetely some ingredients you want to look for in your hair serum. Glycerin or glycol, is a humectant, which will help pull in moisture from the environment to help the hair stay fully hydrated. Oils like coconut oil, avocado oil, or argan oil. Really any kind of oil will help prevent the moisture thats already in your hair from leaving. This prevents dried out hair, which also prevents frizz.

A great serum to reduce frizz is THIS ONE. As an Amazon favorite, I just had to pick this up and share it with all of you! I feel like it is not super heavy so it does not give you that greasy look, but it helps sleek your hair down. Make sure to try it if you do not have an anti-frizz hair serum.

Hair Serum Ingredients for Split Ends

Split ends are due to damaged hair. Either from driness, or stress from heat for friction. I used to suffer from split ends until I started using a hair mask. Although not entirely a serum, hair masks are great products to help keep your hair shiny, and healthy looking. My favorite one is this Healing Hair Masque.

Damaged hair usually looks dead and dull. By using ingredients like keratin or oils, you are able to help with smoothing and shine! Keratin is a protein that supports the hair, skin, and nails. This protein is super effective in a hair smoothing serum because it will wrap the hair strands in a protective layer of keratin. This will leave you with super smooth and silky hair.

Oils like coconut and argon are other great ingredients to look out for as they will help hydrate the hair which will help prevent these split ends and any frizz associated with dehydration.

A great hair serum ingredient for spilt ends includes keratin because it helps strengthen the damaged hair through its structure. This PRODUCT here is absolutely amazing! I found that it really does a good job with making my hair look and feel healthier. It also helps with frizz giving you luscious sleek hair. This keratin hair serum has so many positive reviews on Amazon, that it is worth it to try!

Hair Serum Ingredients for Heat Protection

Many heat protectants will have a mixture of everything mentioned above!

Humectants like glycol, to help increase moisture and reduce frizz. Proteins, like Keratin, to stabilize the hair structure. And oils, like aloe or coconut to help hydrate and protect the follicle. I like to use a heart protectant anytime I use a hot tool to style my hair. Lately, I avoid these things because I recently colored my hair. I even use a heat protectant when I use a hairdryer! I like to make sure I limit any potential damage that may occur.

My current heat protectant is THIS ONE! I feel like when I apply this serum, I do not feel like my hair is being that damaged by my heat tools. This is a great heat protectant because it does not contain parabens or sulfates. Check it out if you are in need of a heat protectant, you might end up LOVING it!

In my experience, it just depends on whether the hair is dry or not. If you want to apply a serum when your hair is wet work your way from the tips to the root. Just like you would conditioner.

On the other hand, if your hair is dry and to want to add something, apply it from the roots down. These specific directions are to help prevent damage to the structure of the hair.
